Urban Terrain

I am always taking photos of inventive garden spaces in cities and thinking of ways to weave the gardens into urban design. When my sister and I visited the Highline in New York, I photographed the gardens running through the five burroughs with impressive architecture and long runs of low rise buildings and brownstones. I have always loved Vuilliard and how he energizes his compositions using bold stripes and florals in his figures clothing, set against the patterns and objects of interior spaces. One evening, my daughters, coincidentally both came to an event, wearing pants with floral design. I photographed them so that I could set them inside the garden, extending the garden themes into functional clothing and fabric.
