Heritage Quarter: A new vision for an urban landscape

This collaboration for Boyle Street Projections features the works of Jill Thomson, visual artist, Darcia Parada multi disciplinary artist and director of Mercury Opera, and Owen Brierley of Guru Digital Arts. Together they have created a live painting from an existing work that features an Edmonton historical cityscape of heritage buildings, from the perspective of an alleyway, paired with new visual and auditory projection elements. The painting, inspired by the historic buildings along Jasper Avenue east of 97th Street, just blocks away from the Boyle Street community league, grows and shifts with the audio ambience that incorporates both recorded street sounds and operatic performances highlighting the passage of time past to present. In blending the eternal harmonies of opera this tri-partite artistic collaboration celebrates the joy of urban living.
